MARÍA VIDAL, THE ‘BARONESS’ OF CASTELLDEFELS

This work is a work of fiction. The fact that it is inspired by or refers to real people and events does not make it a historical novel. Most of the characters and situations are fictional. However, some characters and events did exist: Maria Vidal, her husband Pere Pérez-Moreno and their daughter Maria Anna; Manuela d’Erill; Caietana d’Oms, her son Agustí de Copons, and also the Bournonville mentioned at the beginning. The same applies to the period – the year 1733 and onwards – and to some of the activities described: Maria Vidal’s acquisition of 50% of the Barony of Eramprunyà, the subsequent repair of Les Arenes (now Les Marines), the expansion of the Castle and the planting of thousands of vines on the hillsides in terraces supported by dry-stone walls, were initiatives of Maria Vidal, seconded by Caietana d’Oms, owner of the other half of the barony, and later by her son Agustí de Copons i d’Oms. Also the lawsuit against the Monastery of Sant Cugat, won in the unprecedented time of one year.
