REPORT ON GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Since the latter third of the 20th century, the world has not only faced the threat of a third nuclear world war but has also witnessed a clear deterioration in its major ecological balances. This would lead, towards the end of the century, to a greater focus on the fight against global warming and climate change.

At present, these two issues represent humanity’s greatest medium- and long-term challenge, for unless we move towards a decarbonised society, a rise in temperatures of more than two degrees above pre-industrial levels would lead us into an irreversible situation: the biosphere would cease to be a hospitable habitat for all species, becoming an increasingly uninhabitable world.
