Publication of a doctoral thesis
The publication of the findings of postgraduate research is known as a doctoral thesis. It is an original study on a subject related to the scientific, technical or artistic fields. A doctoral thesis project is always supervised by a university department head, who approves the topic and oversees the entire research process.
Once the thesis has been completed, the time comes to present and defend it before an examination board in a public session. Upon its approval by the University, the doctoral candidate is awarded the degree of Doctor.
A hard copy of the doctoral thesis, once it has been successfully defended, is deposited in the University Library and in the digital database maintained by the academic institution.

A doctoral thesis is a written study of original research carried out by a student or writer, based on an analysis of existing literature on a given subject. A doctoral thesis leads to the award of a Doctorate.

“According to Umberto Eco’s now classic definition, it is ‘a typed work of moderate length, ranging from one hundred to four hundred pages, in which the student addresses a problem relating to the field in which they wish to obtain a doctorate’. However, the required length of doctoral theses depends greatly on the field of study in question, as well as on the country in which the research is carried out. Thus, for example, in the case of scientific studies, the length is usually much shorter than in the humanities, and in Anglo-Saxon countries it is generally shorter than in Latin countries. The estimated time taken to write a thesis also varies, although it is usually between three and five years, depending once again on the country, the subject and other variables.”
